Chevrolet to run 1.6 turbo in STCC 2012

Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden is going to run 1.6 turbo engines in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship this year.
“I think it is good that all top teams are running turbo engines, you can make it more even then,” said Rydell to Teknikens Värld.

Despite STCC recently denying that the FIA world engine would be allowed in the championship this year, the 1.6 turbo engine joins the 2.0 turbo bio gas engine of the Volkswagen Scirocco, the 2.0 turbo engine of the NGTC Honda Civic and the naturally aspirated S2000 engines of the privateers.

Rydell was sixth fastest in the first official STCC test of the year with the four Volkswagens ahead of him, as well as Tomas Engström’s Honda.
“There was just a 0.37 second difference, that is fixable,” said Rydell.

STCC continues testing at Mantorp Park on the 25th of April where more cars are expected to join, other than the seven cars taking part in the test at Knutstorp today.
