Stureson takes first STCC pole of 2012 for IPS

Johan Stureson claimed pole position for the STCC premiere at Mantorp Park, beating fellow Volkswagen driver Johan Kristoffersson in the newer Scirocco. The IPS Team Biogas driver was 0.027 seconds faster, with Rickard Rydell as best Chevrolet driver in third.

Michel Nykjaer made it two Chevrolets in the top four, four tenths from the fastest time of the session. Patrik Olsson claimed fifth fastest time with the Honda of Tomas Engström in sixth.

Jordi Gené was seventh fastest in his first ever STCC qualifying session, just one thousand of a second behind Engström. Santosh Berggren was the sole privateer driver to make it to the Q2 session, but was over two seconds off pace.

Berggren’s team mate Robin Appelqvist just missed Q2 and is going to start ninth ahead of fellow SEAT driver Niclas Olsson.
