Michael Nykjaer takes his first ever STCC pole

Michel Nykjaer secured his first ever STCC pole position in the qualifying session at Knutstorp today. The Dane took pole for the second race 0.117 seconds ahead of team mate Rickard Rydell, securing a Chevrolet 1-2.

Johan Stureson was once again best Volkswagen driver in qualifying, claiming third ahead of manufacturer colleague and championship leader Johan Kristoffersson. Patrik Olsson made it three Volkswagens in the top five, 0.338 seconds from pole.

Tomas Engström claimed position six on the grid after setting a time that was 0.9 seconds from Nykjaer’s best time. Jordi Gené was seventh fastest in the session, 1.2 seconds behind, ahead of top independent driver Andreas Ahlberg in the Audi A4, 2.1 seconds from pole.

Joakim Ahlberg was first driver outside the Q2 session ahead of Santosh Berggren. A total of 12 cars took part in the session while Niclas Olsson and André Andersson were unable to hit the track due to technical problems.
