Michel Nykjaer takes second win of 2012 at Sturup
Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden driver Michel Nykjaer won the second race at Sturup ahead of championship leader Johan Kristoffersson’s Volkswagen Scirocco.
Nykjaer started from pole position with Kristoffersson alongside, whilst a bad start for race one winner Tomas Engström from third on the grid in the Honda Civic saw him drop to sixth on the first lap behind Patrik Olsson, Rickard Rydell and Johan Stureson.
Niclas Olsson in the normally aspirated NP Racing SEAT León also lost ground at the start, but made up the positions he lost over the next few laps, working his way past first André Andersson, then Santosh Berggren’s turbocharged SEAT León to move up to eighth, which became seventh when Johan Stureson pitted on lap 10 with a puncture.
Nykjaer held off Kristoffersson to take his second win of the season, and remains in third place in the standings, 27 points behind the Volkswagen driver. Kristoffersson extends his lead by three points over Rydell after race two’s results, which sees the 23-year-old leave Sturup with a five point lead over the reigning champion after going in with a four point lead.
Niclas Olsson’s win in the Semcon Cup is his sixth straight win in the category after six races, and leads that category by 63 points over Andreas Ahlberg.
The STCC returns to Mantorp Park for their next round on July 7th.
