Practice fireball for Gordon Shedden

Gordon Shedden suffered a major fire at the end of free practice 1, causing heavy damage to his Honda Civic. The team are hard at work trying to get the car ready for this afternoon’s qualifying session.

Shedden had set the second fastest time before the incident, which occurred in the final minute of free practice. A vibration caused a fitting to come loose which caused the fire, which the team are now changing in both of their cars as a precaution.

The damage to Shedden’s car is severe enough that the car will certainly not make the second free practice session at 12:20 BST. The team are working to get the car ready for qualifying so that Shedden, who sits second in the Championship just one point behind Matt Neal, can get a favourable grid position for tomorrow.
