Johan Kristoffersson battling for title from P2 on the grid

STCC points leader Johan Kristoffersson starts second on the grid for both of tomorrow’s races, sandwiched between the two Chevrolets of Michel Nykjaer and Rickard Rydell, and admits that’s now where he would have wanted to be on race day.

The 23-year-old set the second fastest time in both segments of qualifying. In Q1 he was edging closer to Michel Nykjaer’s stunning lap of 1:00.539, but in Q2 was leading most of the way until a last minute flyer from Rickard Rydell snatched away pole position by just 12-thousandths of a second.

“It’s absolutely not where we want to be, We want to be P1,” said Kristoffersson to TouringCarTimes. “I’m very happy with the team’s job and my job. There’s nothing left in the car, (we showed) the performance that we had, and still it was so close but also so far away.”

Kristoffersson will start alongside Michel Nykjaer in race one and Rickard Rydell in race two, with both the Chevrolet drivers aiming to close the gap in the standings to the Team Biogas.se driver.

“On this track, it’s absolutely not good to be on the outside in the first corner,” added Kristoffersson. “The race should be our strong point, so we’ll see what we can do and fight to the end.”
