Kristoffersson secures STCC 2012 title with second win

Johan Kristoffersson secured the STCC 2012 title with six points over defending champion Rickard Rydell. The Volkswagen driver won the final race of the year, securing a double victory at Solvalla, ahead of Johan Stureson and Tomas Engström.

Rickard Rydell got in to the lead on the first lap after a strong start. But the lead did not last for long as Kristoffersson and Stureson got past Rydell five laps in to the race when the Chevrolet driver made a mistake and went wide.

Engström made a strong charge through the field once again and managed to get past Rydell for third in the first half of the race. The Honda driver closed in on the leading Volkswagen duo, but was not able to get close enough to challenge.

Rydell finished fourth in the end and had to defend from Patrik Olsson who finished fifth. Fourth position and 12 points was not enough to keep ahead of Kristoffersson who got 25 points for his victory.

Michel Nykjaer finished eighth in the race behind leading privateer driver Niclas Olsson and was far off pace compared to the leaders. The Danish Chevrolet driver dropped from second to third in the standings.
