Andrew Jordan and Eurotech seal both indie titles

Andrew Jordan claimed his first independent drivers’ title in the rain at Brands Hatch, and Eurotech Racing their first independent teams’ title in their first year with the new Honda Civic.

After a difficult weekend at Silverstone two weeks’ ago where Rob Collard was able to close in the standings in his West Surrey Racing BMW, and with Mat Jackson an outside contender, it was plain sailing on Sunday at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.

Despite a slow start from second on the grid, Jordan was able to recover to regain second as well as the independents’ class win in race one, which made it next to impossible for Collard to regain the ground in the remaining two races, and Jackson eliminated from the fight after an oil leak in race one.

In the second race, it only took one lap for Jordan to be confirmed as the independent drivers’ champion after Rob Collard was taken off in a tangle with championship protagonists Gordon Shedden and Jason Plato.

In race three, Eurotech Racing had now come from behind West Surrey Racing to take the lead in the independent teams’ standings as well, and finished as the second independent on the road behind Frank Wrathall with West Surrey Racing enduring another tough race was enough to secure the Lichfield-based team their first independent teams’ title.

“It’s a relief after race two to be champion, and then to get the teams’ championship was fantastic,” said Jordan to TouringCarTimes.

“As soon as Collard was out we knew we’d done it. Then Onslow-Cole went off which helps in the teams’, so going into the last race, all the focus was on the teams’. A great day for us.”

Andrew Jordan joined in the formation finish for the two works Hondas at the end of the race as Honda completed an unprecedented clean sweep of the BTCC titles thanks to Eurotech’s results.
“We’ve worked very closely with them all year and they’ve been good to us and vice versa. To end it like that was really nice.”

Heading to next year, the 23-year-old who’s heading into his sixth year of competition in the BTCC had his sights set high.
“You’ve got to set your aims for the drivers’ title. It’ll be hard going up against the manufacturer teams, but I’ll keep improving and this just boosts my confidence even more.”
