“Flash” and Kristoffersson pleased with unification call

TTA and STCC Team Principals Jan ‘Flash’ Nilsson and Tommy Kristoffersson are pleased with the outcome of the two series’ negotiations, with both series merging under the STCC – Elitserien i Racing banner in 2013.

The STCC and TTA announced yesterday evening that they will merge in 2013, with Solution-F cars replacing the STCC’s assortment of Super 2000 and NGTC regulation cars.

“I think it is a logical decision,” said Nilsson, Flash Engineering Team Principal and TTA founder. “The best championship is merged with the best regulations. The possibilities to succeed and create something new for the european elite racing scene are there.”

“I hope that everyone understands that the teams and the support classes were wounded after the split, and it is going to take a couple of years to repair this, but the sooner we can work on it the better, and the decision to merge is finally here.”

Tommy Kristoffersson, Team Principal of the Volkswagen Team Biogas team echoed Nilsson’s sentiments, though the logistics of a change of car for the 2013 season at such late notice will be a struggle for the 2012 STCC drivers’ champions.

“We want to be there from the first race, but I am not convinced that I can get Volkswagen onboard,” Kristoffersson told vf.se.

“The year is not far from over and time is short to change to the TTA cars for 2013, but in the long-term this is going to be good,” he added.

“My goal is to continue with Volkswagen, but which exact way we are going to do it, I do not know. For 2014 and 2015 we will be able to find a deeper DNA in the cars and if you look at it long term, over a three-year period from 2013 to 2015, the new solution is really attractive.”

“For the sake of motorsport, this is for sure the right way. Sweden is too small for two championships. It would have become impossible over time. We’ll have to see how it is going to be for Volkswagen, but as a team we would really like to race against Volvo and BMW and the best.”
