Tommy Rustad returns to rallycross in Norway

Tommy Rustad has announced to leave the racing circuits for 2013 and instead resume his rallycross career in Norway.
“Rallycross has always been close to my heart, it was there I made my breakthrough in motorsport at the beginning of the nineties,” said Rustad.

The Norwegian has driven for Volvo Polestar Racing in the STCC and TTA since 2008. Rustad and Polestar parted ways last year, but the Norwegian will still be in a Volvo this year – driving a Volvo S40 in the Rallycross Super National championship of Norway.
“Super National has always kept a high level in Norway. This solution also enables me to spend more time with my family during the summer, at the same time that I can practice the sport that I like the most,” said Rustad.

Rustad’s racing career includes the European Renault Spider title in 1997, BTCC independent title in 1998 and two STCC titles, 2000 and 2009. The 44-year-old briefly returned to rallycross in 2006, before resuming the racing career with Opel and from 2008 Volvo.
“I have used the last couple of months to think what I want to do after ending my cooperation with Volvo Polestar Racing. The driver market for international racing is tough, most expect the driver to bring a budget for the project. That is not relevant for me after these last years with Volvo. Motorsport has been a very important part of my life and it has given me a lot of joy. That is why I want to continue with rallycross in Norway,” said Rustad.

Rustad’s rallycross career include six norwegian titles.
