Volkswagen and KMS switches from STCC to Rallycross (updated)

Volkswagen Sweden and Kristoffersson Motorsport today announced a switch from STCC to the Swedish Rallycross Championship for 2013.
“Rallycross is an attractive spectator sport that is close to Volkswagen Motorsport’s programme for rallying. STCC has also opened up the possibilities to host rallycross races for 2014,” said Sten Forsberg, Managing Director of Volskwagen Sweden.

Reigning STCC and Superstars champion Johan Kristoffersson is going to drive a 500 HP Volkswagen Scirocco in the Swedish Rallycross Championship alongside new team mate Pontus Tidemand.

Other than full season of the Swedish Rallycross Championship, the team is also going to take part in the Swedish round of the European Rallycross Championship at Höljes, as well as a show round of rallycross held at Solvalla alongside STCC in June. STCC is planning to expand to a complete rallycross championship in 2014.
“Both Volkswagen and KMS have been big and important actors of Swedish motorsport with STCC as a platform for many years and their programme is of course important for us. Their programme sends a signal to rallycross Sweden that the programme that we have for the sport is the right way to go,” said Bob Huzell, Managing Director of STCC AB.
