Göransson takes pole in dramatic Gothenburg qualifying

Richard Göransson claimed a last-gasp pole position in a dramatic and rain-hit qualifying session at Gothenburg City Arena. The BMW driver set the fastest lap of the Q3 session on the dying seconds, despite increasing rain fall.

Volvo occupied positions two to three, separated by only a single thousand of a second, with Linus Ohlsson in second and Thed Björk in third.

Daniel Haglöf looked strong during the session, which started dry, and held the top spot for a good portion of the session. The Saab driver fell to fourth, just over three tenths from Göransson’s time, with Fredrik Larsson being the final driver in the Q3 session in fifth.

Larsson caused a red flag in the Q3 session as he put his BMW in the barriers in the early part of the session, forced to sit out the remainder of the session.

The sudden rain in the Q1 session saw Jocke Mangs being eliminated early on and the Q2 saw a couple of surprises as well. Niclas Olsson went in to the barriers, causing a red flag as the Citroën was repaired. As the green flags were out again, the times were improved despite many teams predicting the times to remain due to the increasing rain fall.

Reigning TTA champion Fredrik Ekblom was first driver to miss the Q3 session in sixth position, with Tomas Engström in seventh, Robert Dahlgren in eighth, Robin Rudholm in ninth and Roar Lindland in tenth.

The race starts at 15.05 CET and more rain is forecasted.
