Robin Rudholm: “I wasn’t supposed to take part in the race”
Robin Rudholm secured his first STCC podium finish since 2009 with third position at Gothenburg City Arena this weekend, but Rudholm came very close to not racing at all.
“We had lost a partner and I was not supposed to drive, so I was at work when Dick (WestCoast Racing team manager) called me and said that I have to get to the track. This was just a couple of hours before the first test started,” said Rudholm.
The BMW driver chose to start on slicks, from eighth position on the grid, in the race despite heavy rain having soaked the track before the race, but a dry line quickly formed and Rudholm was able to gain a lot of ground to finish third, passing team mate and pole sitter Richard Göransson, who chose to drive on rain tyres, towards the end of the race.
“It felt right to gamble from where we started. It was really difficult to drive in the beginning but it got quicker and quicker. Incredibly nice to be back on the podium,” said Rudholm.
Despite the strong result, nothing is set for Rudholm for the remaining part of the STCC season.
“Unfortunately nothing is set for Falkenberg but we are hoping for more help and we are going to work very hard to make it possible to continue. I really want to thank Dick and the team, they never gave up and it felt really nice to reward everyone who was there for us with a podium finish,” said Rudholm.
