Thed Björk: “I am still the king of Gothenburg!”
Thed Björk extended his record of wins at Gothenburg City Arena to four after his third straight victory of the season and the Volvo driver was overjoyed.
“I am still the king of Gothenburg! It was an awesome but challenging race, a huge thanks to the team,” said Björk.
Björk had showed strong form all weekend by being fastest in testing. But after an impressive lap by Richard Göransson and Linus Ohlsson in a wet qualifying session, Björk had to settle for third on the grid. A very late decision to change to slick tyres proved to be the success recipe.
“My engineer Jan Andersson took the decision and I have 100% confidence in him. The first part of the race was very tricky and I dropped back, I even touched the wall twice,” said Björk.
Göransson headed the field from the start on wet tyres but had to find him self reeled in by Björk who posted lap times that were over three seconds faster in the final part of the race.
“With about 20 laps left of the race I felt that this is indeed going to go my way and I was so much quicker than Göransson,” said Björk.
The Volvo Polestar Racing driver has extended his championship lead to 21 points over Göransson with three of eight races held.
“I can’t thank the team enough. The car has been a dream all weekend, I have been able to focus entirely on my driving. I can’t wait for the next race,” said Björk.
