Richard Göransson: “We have to analyse the lack of speed”

BMW Dealer Team looked set for a top fight in the STCC race in Östersund with Richard Göransson qualifying second on the grid. But as the race progressed both Göransson and Fredrik Larsson dropped down the field.
“This didn’t turn out as I had hoped and it is hard to know what to say right now,” said a disappointed Göransson after the race.

Göransson was involved in a hard fight for second with Dahlgren in the first part of the race. But as Dahlgren went past, Volvo colleagues Linus Ohlsson and Fredrik Ekblom eventually went past as well.
“This is the first time for a long while that I felt that we didn’t have any pace at all. We could post good lap times, but then it was impossible to keep that speed for the entire race,” said Göransson.

Things were worse for Larsson who dropped even further down the field before retiring after being turned around by Alexander Graff and collected by Mattias Andersson.
“Another zero points and there are no suitable words to describe it. Things felt good for the first five laps and then the car became hard to drive. Graff’s overtaking attempt was very unnecessary, you can’t overtake on that place. It was right to penalize him even if it doesn’t help my race,” said Larsson.

Göransson remains in second position in the championship, but with 38 points up to championship leader and race winner Thed Björk.
“We have to analyse the lack of speed and get back up again. There are five races still left to drive. Things didn’t become easier in the championship, but I am still second and we are going to fight back in the coming race,” said Göransson.
