Thed Björk celebrates “best ever” STCC title
Thed Björk secured the 2013 STCC title in the penultimate race of the year at Tierp Arena. The title is his second ever after his 2006 title for Audi and the 32-year-old describes this one as his best.
“This is my best ever title! The feelings right now are not describable, it is just so nice after all the hard work during the year. Huge thanks to my engineer Jan Andersson and my mechanics that always deliver a perfect car to me,” said Björk.
The Volvo Polestar Racing driver has dominated the season so far this year with podium finishes in all but three races and seven out of ten victories.
“It’s hard to put the finger on what exactly it is that is behind the success this year. But everything is just there, my driving, the team, the flow and so on. I guess this is the case sometimes in racing, just as some years everything seems to go wrong,” said Björk.
One race weekend remain of the 2013 STCC season, at Mantorp Park in two weeks where Björk is aiming for new records. Richard Göransson holds the record of most number of victories in one season with nine in 2004. That year however featured 18 rounds compared to this year’s 12 and the victory percentage record is held by Jan “Flash” Nilsson with 67% in 1996 and 1997. Björk is currently on 70% after ten of 12 races.
“With the title in the bag, I’m going flat out for victory at Mantorp Park. I love the track and what better way to end the season with a double victory and a new record?” said Björk.
