Andrew Jordan in the driving seat heading to Brands
Championship leader Andrew Jordan says the pressure is on his title rivals at Brands Hatch, after a fine Silverstone weekend put him in a commanding position to take a maiden BTCC crown.
Eurotech Racing’s Jordan took a sixth, second and fifth to extend his lead to 34 points over closest challenger Matt Neal, with reigning champion Gordon Shedden a point further back.
But the 24-year-old is not taking anything for granted ahead of the season finale, where he will be looking to topple four former champions in Neal, Shedden, Colin Turkington and Jason Plato.
“I thought we were going to lose points, so to come out having extended it is unbelievable. It puts us in a good position going to Brands, but a lot can happen,” said Jordan to TouringCarTimes.
The highlight of the day for the fans was a titanic battle between Jordan and Triple Eight MG’s Plato in the second race, a fight Jordan narrowly had to give second best in.
He said: “It was a good close touring car race. I wasn’t going to get involved after I had my shot. I couldn’t quite get it stopped into Becketts, so then it was just about settling for second.”
Now the Honda Civic man turns his attention to the Kent circuit, where he landed his independents’ championship title last season.
He said: “Saturday we will approach as always, and be as quick as we can. We we will see who is around us, and how we play it.
“We are in the driving seat, and the other guys have the pressure on, because they have got to outscore us.”
Jordan is also in prime position to retain the independents’ crown, as he leads the standings by 57 points from West Surrey Racing’s Turkington.
