Gordon Shedden: “Anything can happen at Brands”

Reigning BTCC champion Gordon Shedden says anything can still happen in this year’s championship fight, as he heads into the Brands Hatch finale 35 behind Andrew Jordan.

Honda Racing Team’s Shedden says he has not given up hope of retaining his crown, but conceded that Eurotech Racing’s Jordan is in the box seat for a maiden title.

A fine final race at Silverstone, where the Scotsman came through from seventh on the grid, ensured he would still be in the running when the series rolls into Kent.

Speaking to TouringCarTimes, Shedden said: “Andy Jordan is in the driving seat, and he has scored in all three races yet again. He just needs to stroke it home. But this is touring car racing, and anything can happen.”

On his final race victory, Shedden added: “I didn’t think for a minute that we would be able to win a race – far from it. It has been a tough weekend, one of the toughest. To sneak a win is a great way to finish off.

“I did most of it on the first lap, to be honest. The rest of the cars I passed were still on the harder tyre, and there was a big difference between the option tyre and the normal tyre today.

“The car came alive for me, and it’s a great reward for everyone.”
