First V8 Supercars Volvo S60 completed

Garry Rogers Motorsport has completed their first Volvo S60 in V8 Supercars specification.
“We have got one car completed and another chassis just about completed,” said Garry Rogers.

The work on the S60 chassis is done in the GRM workshop in Australia while the engine work is done by Polestar in Sweden, with the first run of the engine scheduled for mid-december.
“Polestar is as everybody knows our partner in this business and they are the ones doing the engine program for us in Sweden. They are well advanced with the engine, but until we have got the engine in the car and doing a few laps, then we really don’t know. We just got to get it in and get cracking,” said Rogers.

Volvo are present at Bathurst this weekend with a 508 HP Volvo S60 Polestar Concept Car, pictured above, which former Volvo driver and 1998 Bathurst 1000 winner Jim Richards will drive demo runs with during the weekend.
“It is fantastic watching the cars on track, but also very jealous, we want to be on there as quickly as we can too. Very much looking forward to next year,” said Volvo Car Australia Managing Director Matt Braid.

Two Volvo S60s will be on the grid next year, one driven by young GRM star Scott McLaughlin while the second seat has not been confirmed yet.
“Today is really about confirming Scott as our first Volvo Polestar Racing Team driver for next year. Obviously he made an announcement he was secure in his future a month or so ago but today was the first chance we officially had to welcome him to the Volvo fold. The second driver we are discussing at the moment and who that could be. Alex is definitely in consideration for that. Obviously we are weighing that up at the moment,” said Braid.

Of the new manufacturers in V8 Supercars, Nissan have done the best job so far with one victory earlier this year and Rick Kelly as best placed driver in 13th position in the championship. But Ford and Holden are still far ahead of the newcomers and Braid is cautious with Volvo’s expectations ahead of 2014.
“Taking in account Erebus and Nissan what they have achieved this year, they have done a fantastic job. So we know that there is obviously going to be a lot of hurdles ahead of us. Our eyes are open to the fact that it is going to take a bit of time to get going. But we’ve got some very good people at GRM and obviously Polestar working together to make sure we get on the grid in the right way and obviously get as competitive as we can,” said Braid.
