Robin Rudholm announces retirement from professional racing
Swedish racer Robin Rudholm has announced his retirement from professional racing.
“It has been an amazing journey that lasted for 28 years. All good journeys come to an end and the decision to end my racing career on a professional level has gradually emerged,” said Rudholm.
The 34-year-old drove selected races for WestCoast Racing in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship this year.
“The timing is right now. The right thing is to focus on my advertising agency R3 and take it to the next level, as well as being a more dedicated father and husband,” said Rudholm.
Rudholm made his name in racing in 1999 when he clinched the Swedish and Nordic Formula Ford title. After a couple of years in international single seater racing, Rudholm returned to Sweden in 2003 and claimed a first of three Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia titles the year after.
After one season with SEAT in 2003 in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, Rudholm joined WestCoast Racing in 2006. His STCC results included three victories, 18 podium finishes, four pole positions and third overall in the 2009 drivers championship.
“I am very proud to be the only driver with three Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia titles, as well as my victories, podium finishes and third overall in STCC. I am also very glad to have been a part of Tools’ involvement in STCC, one of the biggest programs ever in Swedish racing. They went from being my personal sponsor in Formula Ford to the main sponsor of WestCoast Racing,” said Rudholm.
While Rudholm retires from professional racing, he is not ruling out a potential future return to other championships.
“The love for motorsport will always be there. the sport is a big part of my life. I am not closing the door to driving, the future will tell what it will be. It is for sure not impossible that I for example will drive some GT races in the future,” said Rudholm.
