Kia enters STCC with Brovallen Design

Kia Motors Sweden has entered the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship in a three-year deal with the Brovallen Design team.
”Kia has had an amazing development in Sweden during the past years and it feels inspiring to be on that trip,” said Tobias Johansson, owner of Brovallen Design.

The team is going to field two Kia Optimas in the 2014 STCC season, for young drivers Andreas Wernersson and Mattias Lindberg.
”We are hoping for a strong result on track and to further reach our customers. Another positive aspect of the cooperation is that we are going to support two young and promising drivers,” said Peter Himmer, Managing Director of Kia Motors Sweden AB.

19-year-old Wernersson drove for Brovallen Design in the final race of the year and impressed by scoring points in both races with sixth as his best result.
“My first STCC weekend went really well and I have had a dialogue with Tobias since then. My goal is to score as many points as possible and to take a podium finish at some point during the season. It is going to be tough, but I am not here to be a part of the pack,” said Wernersson.

20-year-old Lindberg finished third overall last year in the Renault Clio Cup Sweden and has previously driven Formula Renault with strong results.
”This is no doubt the biggest step in my career. I have raced in Formula Renault in the past, I think the STCC car is going to have about the same feeling. This is a team that has the capacity to fight in the top and I am looking forward to the season,” said Lindberg.

The STCC season starts May 10th at Knutstorp with official pre-season testing kicking off next week at the same track on April 23.
