David Wall’s Ford Falcon a write-off after Pukekohe crash
Dick Johnson Racing has been forced to build a new chassis for the #17 Ford Falcon of David Wall after his crash at Pukekohe last weekend.
“There are major issues with the front and rear of the #17 DJR Falcon, with the front end in very bad shape. There is also damage to the firewall. With the tight turnaround to get the cars on their way to Perth, we are going to introduce a new one,” said Ryan Story, DJR senior manager.
Wall hit the barriers at turn ten after a clash with Ford Performance Racing’s Chaz Mostert.
”I got down the inside of Chaz at the hairpin and he gave him plenty of room, we went through the first left and looked at him and thought that we were reasonably close so gave him a little bit more room the next left before the right on the straight if you like. As soon as you hit the grass you just spun around backwards so I just swung it around to try and get a bit of speed off because we knew we were going to hit something. It hit side on and then flicked off again, so it probably took away some of the brunt if you like, instead of just hitting at a dead stop,” said Wall.
There were no penalties issued for the incident between the two, and the DJR team are currently working hard to get the new chassis ready for the Perth 400 race in just over two weeks time.
“We have a spare, third chassis, built by Pace Innovations at the same time as the two we have been racing since last year. Paul Ceprnich and the team there have done a great job with it. FPR have also been a great help with getting parts sent up for the build. We will be ready!” said Story.
