Fredrik Ekblom on pole but Fredrik Larsson in points lead

Volvo Polestar Racing driver Fredrik Ekblom claimed pole position for the second race at Knutstorp of the 2014 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship premiere. But WestCoast Racing driver Fredrik Larsson has taken the points lead after being fastest in the points awarding Q1 session.

The BMW driver was fastest in Q1 by 0.103 seconds ahead of Ekblom and Richard Göransson. Reigning champion Thed Björk was fourth fastest, close to four tenths of a second from the fastest time.

Mattias Andersson showed strong form for Dacia Dealer Team in fourth position ahead of the top STCC newcomer in the form of Emma Kimiläinen in fifth position.

The Q1 times decides the grid for the first race, but with the top ten position reversed. That means pole position for BMW driver Erik Jonsson ahead of Kia driver Mattias Lindberg and BMW driver Philip Forsman.

The top eight drivers from Q1 went on to the Q2 session which was held in a single lap “Super Pole” format. Ekblom blitzed the session, beating his best lap from Q1, and was fastest by a mere 0.081 seconds ahead of Larsson.

Göransson claimed third position in Q2 ahead Andersson in fourth while the ever-impressive Kimiläinen claimed fifth position for Saab team PWR Racing.

Björk had a disappointing session in sixth position, just two thousands of a second behind Kimiläinen. Linus Ohlsson claimed position seven for Team Kia and Forsman position eight for BMW Dealer Team WestCoast Racing.

Larsson heads the points standings on 25 points thanks to the changes in regulations which awards the same amount of points for Q1 as a race. Ekblom is second on 18 points and Göransson third on 15 points.

Team Kia driver Andreas Wernersson was unable to take part in the qualifying sessions due to a broken gearbox.
