The streets of Gothenburg hosts second STCC race of 2014
Gothenburg City Arena hosts the second Scandinavian Touring Car Championship race of 2014 this weekend. BMW driver Fredrik Larsson heads the standings after a solid season premiere at Knutstorp four weeks ago.
”To be in the lead is really good and we got a cracking start to the season. Now we just need to continue like this and deliver, my goal is to continue in the lead after this weekend,” said Larsson.
Closest behind Larsson is 2012 TTA champion Fredrik Ekblom who won the second race at Knutstorp from pole position.
”I am very pleased with the season start. The feeling is good and there is no doubt over my goal for this weekend: victory,” said Ekblom.
The in-team Volvo rivalry between Ekblom and reigning champion Thed Björk heated up in the first race of the year where the both swapped paint during an exciting side-by-side battle and there is reason to expect that the fight is going to continue.
”We had a good fight, but our goal is to both be on the podium in our home race. I love this track and I am of course aiming for victory,” said Björk.
STCC newcomer Mattias Lindberg shocked the paddock by winning Kia’s first ever STCC race at Knutstorp and is hoping for even more points from Gothenburg.
”It is a track that I like and that suits me. I have got higher expectations ahead of this race than I had for the premiere. While it is a narrow track, there are good places to overtake, at least as good at Knutstorp,” said Lindberg.
Another driver aiming for better results in Gothenburg is Emma Kimiläinen who showed strong from in qualifying, but failed to materialize that into race results in the previous race.
”A podium is the goal for this weekend. It is possible and that is what we are working for. It didn’t work out as we hoped for at Knutstorp and I hope that we can stay out of bad luck this weekend,” said Kimiläinen.
There are more drivers in for the top fight at Gothenburg, such as Kia driver Linus Ohlsson and Richard Göransson who comes strengthened from a Swedish GT victory in a Ferrari at Mantorp Park last weekend.
