Lights to flag victory for Thed Björk in Gothenburg

Thed Björk claimed his first STCC victory of 2014 in style by winning the second race at Gothenburg City Arena from pole position. Richard Göransson tried to follow the Volvo driver but dropped back and finished second, six seconds behind.

Linus Ohlsson finished a lonely third in the race, 16 seconds from the leaders, and becomes the first driver this season to finish on the podium in both races of the weekend.

Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson kept fourth through the race ahead of a fighting BMW Dealer Team WestCoast Racing driver Fredrik Larsson in fifth.

Larsson started fourth but got a drive through penalty straight after the start as he had failed to take his correct grid position. Larsson’s BMW failed to start for the formation laps and the regulation states that he has to start last because of that, but he reclaimed fourth on the grid which was incorrect.

Larsson started a furious chase after the penalty and fought his way past team mates Philip Forsman and Erik Jonsson in a spectacular way. Jonsson had passed Wernersson, who later retired, was caught by Forsman and Larsson after that.

As Forsman went on the inside of Jonsson, Larsson took the opportunity to get past them both. He managed to gain another position to fifth on the very last lap, passing Kia driver Mattias Lindberg.

Volvo Polestar Racing driver Fredrik Ekblom had a dreadful race and had to enter the pits after the formation lap to retire with gearbox problems.

Larsson is back in the championship lead on 87 points ahead of Björk who has climbed to second on 82 points while Ekblom drops to third on 75 points. STCC continues in four weeks at Falkenberg.
