Lea Wood and Warren Scott escape from major crash
Lea Wood and Warren Scott both emerged battered and bruised but otherwise unhurt after a nasty accident in the first race at Rockingham this morning.
The accident, which has brought a premature end to Wood’s day, happened on lap three, when Wood spun out at Deene Hairpin and collected Scott in the process.
Scott was minding his own business when Wood found himself going backwards towards the corner, with the Volkswagen CC having nowhere to go, causing significant damage to both cars.
“I’m just a little bit battered and bruised, and a bit of headache but we’ll be alright,” Scott told TouringCarTimes. “(As for the car) I don’t know, I was more worried about my crotch and my head at the time, I haven’t seen it.
“Apparently it wasn’t Lea’s fault, he was already tagged, and Lea’s a good driver, he wouldn’t do anything like that, it’s just unfortunate.”
Wood confirmed Scott’s theory, as it was contact with Aiden Moffat that put the JWT Performance driver across the track.
“Aiden got a good run on me, we went two in one, he went to go down the inside and I came over to defend to stop the position,” said Wood to TouringCarTimes. “Then I had a whack in the back and he sent me round across the grass, backwards and straight in the side of Warren Scott and that was all it was really.
“It’s such high speed round there you can’t stop the car. I wouldn’t say he did it as an intentional thing, he was just on the ragged edge and it’s just so fast there that he couldn’t stop. The car’s not good, that’s us finished for the day.”
