Thed Björk closes in on title after final STCC qualifying of 2014

Volvo Polestar Racing drivers Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblom was fastest in both qualifying sessions of the STCC season finale at Mantorp Park.

Ekblom was fastest in the first qualifying session which is point awarding, with Björk in second position which means 18 points to the championship lead. Title rival Fredrik Larsson had two tough sessions and was seventh fastest in the first session.

This means a 43-point lead for Björk with 50 points left to fight for in the two final races. Björk only needs to finish sixth in either one of the race no matter where Larsson finishes in order to secure the title.

Mattias Lindberg impressed in Q1 by being third fastest ahead of Philip Forsman and Richard Göransson.

The Q2 session started with Daniel Haglöf going off on his lap, spreading gravel all over the track and slowing the lap times considerable for the first three drivers. Those drivers included Larsson who is going to start sixth in the second race.

Björk beat team mate Ekblom with 0.054 seconds in the Q2 session, with Göransson being their closest contender in third position, half a second behind.

Forsman was once again the best BMW driver in fourth position, with Linus Ohlsson in fifth. Lindberg failed to make the Q2 session and is going to start eighth in the second race.

The reversed grid order for the first race means that Team Kia driver Andreas Wernersson on pole position ahead of Daniel Haglöf as Mattias Andersson, who was tenth fastest in Q1, has got a three-place grid penalty.
