Alain Menu hoping to continue strong form
Alain Menu had a good qualifying session at Silverstone, emerging sixth fastest and starting from the third row side-by-side with team-mate Aron Smith.
The Swiss is reasonably happy with the outcome of the session: “I was hoping for a top five place, so being in sixth is okay, pretty much where I expected to be,” said Menu to TouringCarTimes.
“It is a true reflection of where we are, but it was not easy at all. I was absolutely on the limit, the car was not easy to drive.”
The Swiss hopes to repeat the results he had at Rockingham last time out: “If I can get three good finishes and maybe a podium, just like at the last event, I will be happy with that. Of course the goal is to win all the time, but of course you have to do your best with the material you have. Team BMR have done a great job all year long but we are not quite there yet, so to win on merit is impossible. It would be nice, but it will not change my life if I don’t win this year.”
Menu also had his say about the championship battle, picking Colin Turkington as the driver who deserves it the most: “He’s probably not going to win the championship this weekend, but I think and hope he will. He deserves it, he had a very good year and so has his team. Colin is a great driver so it would be a just reward if he wins it, I hope he does.”
The Swiss also said he is likely to stay in the British Touring Car Championship, although he has no deal in place yet: “I don’t have plans for next year yet. It looks like I have a good chance to stay in the championship but I have nothing signed yet.”
Menu’s best result came at Rockingham, where he finished second in Race 3.
