Fredrik Ekblom heads Volvo 1-2 in first Skövde test

Fredrik Ekblom beat reigning champion and team mate Thed Björk to the top spot of the first test session of the 2015 STCC premiere weekend at the new Skövde airport circuit.

The triple champion lapped the short but fast circuit in 50.448, meaning an average speed of over 150 km/h on the 2.1 kilometre circuit.

Ekblom set his fastest time early in the session and improved it once. Björk gained towards the end but ended up just 0.053 seconds behind his team mate.

Richard Göransson was best non-Volvo driver in his Team Tidö prepared Saab 9-3, 0.286 seconds behind. Mattias Andersson claimed position four for Dacia Dealer Team, close to half a second from the top time.

BMW driver Fredrik Larsson followed in fifth position, a mere six thousands of a second behind the Dacia driver. PWR Racing team mates Daniel Haglöf and Emma Kimiläinen occupied positions five and six, seven and nine tenths of a second from Ekblom’s time respectively.

Fastest of the Kia drivers was Norwegian STCC newcomer Kevin Aabol in eighth position, 1.2 seconds from position one.

Next up for the STCC drivers is the second test session, starting at 13:10 CET.
