Campos Racing working to resolve engine difficulties for Fernando Monje

After a first podium result for Campos Racing in the TCR International Series last weekend in Monza for Fernando Monje, the team are now on the back foot after being forced to change the engine in the Spaniard’s Opel Astra OPC yesterday, which wasn’t running correctly in Free Practice 1 this morning at the Salzburgring.

Monje was the only driver not to set a timed lap in the 30-minute session, and there’s just one more practice available to check the engine’s functioning correctly as well as work on the car’s set-up ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session.

“As it’s a new project we haven’t tested so many engines, so every time we put a new engine in we’re starting from scratch. It wasn’t running well so we were just doing out and in-laps and checking the maps,” said Monje to TouringCarTimes.

“There’s a bit of work to do to get the engine up to the same performance as we had in Monza. The engine was fine there and we were really happy with the performance, but unfortunately the engine just broke yesterday in testing. Hopefully we can get it so it’s working as well or at least near the performance level we had in Monza.”
