Fredrik Larsson cruises home to superior race two win at Anderstorp
Fredrik Larsson became the first driver to break the Volvo dominance in the STCC races this year by winning the second race at Anderstorp in style. The BMW driver started sixth but managed to claim the lead early in the race and won by over three seconds ahead of Fredrik Ekblom.
While there was a dry line on the track before the race, all drivers opted for rain tyres, a wise choice as rain showers came and went during the race.
Sportpromotion driver Erik Jonsson was supposed to start from pole thanks to the reversed grid but failed to make it on time for the grid due to a lengthy engine change. Kia driver Kevin Aabol inherited the pole but quickly fell back through the order to finish tenth.
While Larsson was on his own in the lead, the fight for second was hard between PWR Racing drivers Daniel Haglöf and Emma Kimiläinen, as well as Volvo Polestar Racing driver Ekblom.
Ekblom made his way past Kimiläinen for third and a lap later her team mate Haglöf for second place. The Volvo driver was not able to gain ground on Larsson but had to settle for second, meaning that he drops to third in the championship behind the BMW driver.
Kimiläinen took up the fight for third with team mate Haglöf, passing him in the second corner after the one kilometre straight.
Another driver on the move was championship leader Thed Björk. The Volvo driver started ninth but was passed by Richard Göransson early on. A couple of laps later and Björk was back on pace, getting past Göransson and Haglöf to claim fourth position.
Haglöf kept fifth despite a hard-trying Göransson right behind him in sixth. Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson finished in seventh, underlining a rather anonymous weekend result-wise.
STCC continues on June 25th with the one-day twilight race at the short circuit of Mantorp Park.
