From success to disaster for Richard Göransson at Anderstorp
Four time STCC champion Richard Göransson was back on form in qualifying for the races at Anderstorp this past weekend by claiming a superior pole position. But the joy was quickly gone as he first received a grid penalty and then with the team making a mistake with the setup of his car.
”It was a disaster. There was a mistake made which meant that we had completely wrong settings for the race. It was like driving on ice and a miracle that I managed to stay on track,” said Göransson.
The Team Tidö driver started sixth in the first race due to his five-place grid penalty for an incident with Emma Kimiläinen in Skövde and tenth in the second, grid positions he turned in to two sixth positions in the two races.
”We had of course a better setup for the second race, not good enough though. But I am really happy that we managed to qualify on pole, my best qualifying result ever for Team Tidö. The car is in one piece this time in bright contrast to the season opener, so the team will have time to reload and be back for the race at Mantorp,” said Göransson.
Göransson is currently sixth in the championship, 70 points behind championship leader Thed Björk.
STCC continues on June 25th with the one-day twilight race on the short circuit of Mantorp where the championship has not raced since 2000.
