Rob Huff eyeing Macau outing following WTCC Qatar date shift

Rob Huff is looking at extending his record run of victories at the Guia Race of Macau following the recent confirmation that the WTCC’s season finale in Qatar is set to move a week later, and now no longer clashes with the famous street race.

The Guia Race of Macau was previously the World Touring Car Championship’s season finale from 2005-2014, where Rob Huff won an unprecedented seven times during his career; five times with Chevrolet, once with Münnich Motorsport in their SEAT León, and then the final WTCC race at Macau last year with the Lada Granta.

“I’m the most winning touring car driver ever around there and I’d like to try and extend that,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes. “There’s obviously a couple more opportunities out there now to get there in touring cars, so I’d relish the chance to get back out to my favourite track.”

With SEAT and Honda the cars to have this season in the inaugural TCR International Series, it’s likely the 2012 WTCC champion would target being in one of those cars for the finale, with WestCoast Racing the most likely destination, but Huff confirmed that at the moment all options are open. It would also depend on the factory Lada driver being released to drive for another manufacturer, even though there are no formally manufacturer backed programmes in TCR.

“It’s only just come around, so I need to speak with some people and see what we can potentially do,” added Huff. “I also speak to (Lada Sport boss) Viktor (Shapovalov) and make sure he’s happy with me doing it.”
