Gordon Shedden and Rob Collard disagree on race two incident

Gordon Shedden and Robert Collard have both shared their views of the incident between the pair of them in the second race of the day at Croft.

The two came together multiple times through Tower corner and the Jim Clark Esses, where at one point it looked as if one, if not both, of the cars was heading towards the barriers on the side of the track.

“For me that’s uncalled for, it’s dangerous,” Shedden told TouringCarTimes. “He had run wide. He’d made a mistake coming out of the chicane and I got up the inside fine at Tower and it was all good, I’d made the move. I’d even given him a bit of room on the exit rather than just driving him in to the hay fields but he repays that by just driving in to me three times in a straight line.”

However, Collard feels the blame is firmly in the corner of the Honda Racing Team man, likening his driving to that of a “stock car driver”.

“He’s just driving like an animal at the moment,” said Collard, speaking to TouringCarTimes. “He hit me really hard at the hairpin and nearly broke my suspension and nearly turned me around. Then he just has to drive in the side of you. He’s driving down the straight on a straight piece of track hitting me like left hand turn, it’s unbelievable. Unbelievable that a driver of that standard driving like that, it’s like a stock car driver.”

What made matters worse for Shedden was the location of the incident, coming at one of the fastest sections of the circuit between Tower and the Jim Clark Esses.

“It’s a dangerous part of the track,” explained the 2012 champion. “There’s 15ft of grass and then metal barriers so to do that, to hit me in the way he did, I don’t quite know what he thought the outcome was going to be other than trying to leave me in one of the barriers.”

The incident is currently being viewed by the clerk of the course, although Collard feels that the result shouldn’t be changed, but there should be a punishment for Shedden.

“We’re not protesting it,” said Collard. “At the end of the day I’m quite happy for the result to stay as it is but I think he should have points on his license for it because that was quite nasty.”
