Reigning champion Jamie Whincup: ”I’m disappointed”
Reigning V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup left the Queensland Raceway weekend disappointed.
”We qualified well and we should have done much better than eighth so I’m disappointed,” said Whincup.
The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver finished ninth, fifth and eighth in the three races and is placed eighth in the championship.
”We just didn’t have any pace today. We had plenty of other action going on in the pit stops. But it was a lack of pace today and we were a sitting duck from the beginning,” said Whincup.
Whincup is 480 points behind championship leader Mark Winterbottom, but says that it is too early yet to say anything about his title chances.
”I’m just keeping it consistent, which is what I believe. Leading, running last, you don’t look at Championship until after Gold Coast 600 – so that’s still my theory. But to enjoy your racing, if you’ve got some pace you can go out there and race hard and enjoy it. When you don’t have pace you don’t enjoy it as much that’s our focus for the moment, not so much the Championship points,” said Whincup to the official championship site.
