Polestar Racing changes name to Cyan Racing
Following the sale of Polestar’s performance vehicle division to Volvo Cars, the racing arm of the company has confirmed it is changing its name to Cyan Racing.
“We are returning to the very core of our passion: motorsport. The new name represents our cyan-blue colour which carries a proud heritage of Swedish motorsport on race tracks all over the world,” said Christian Dahl, CEO & owner of Cyan Racing.
The Polestar Racing team has competed in the STCC, WTCC and V8 Supercars Championship since the team was launched in 1996. They won the first two STCC seasons in 1996 and 1997, as well as in 2009 with Tommy Rustad driving a Super 2000 spec Volvo C30, and again won the drivers’ titles in 2013-2014 with Thed Björk, as well as the preceding breakaway TTA Series with Fredrik Ekblom in 2012.
Polestar also competed in one year of the World Touring Car Championship in 2011 with a development of the C30, and joined the V8 Supercars Championship in 2014 with the S60.
Polestar added a road car performance wing in 2009, which has been highly successful and was sold to Volvo Cars last month.
Dahl has retained ownership of the racing team, which currently works with Garry Rogers Motorsport in the V8 Supercars Championship, and is the leading team in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship.
Cyan Racing will continue to work with Volvo Polestar in motorsport, with the company soon to confirm its motorsport programmes for 2016.
“It has been an amazing journey developing the first performance foundation of Polestar,” added Dahl. “We will continue a close relationship, with our efforts now focused 100 per cent on motorsport and we have an exciting future ahead of us together.”
