Scott McLaughlin and Alex Prémat content with fifth but hoped for more

After leading the early stages of the 2015 Bathurst 1000, Scott McLaughlin and Alexandre Prémat finished the race fifth overall, scoring their best result at Mount Panorama, but both were left wanting for more after the strong pace of the Volvo S60 at the circuit.

“This has been a tough day, I did the longest stint in my life and it was really mentally draining with the wet and dry conditions,” said McLaughlin.

“We set our car more towards wet conditions and it was a jet in the rain, but not so much in the dry.”

McLaughlin’s result was the best of his career at Mount Panorama, as it also was for Alexandre Prémat, with 16th his best finish recorded in his first year in the championship back in 2012.

“To finish fifth in Bathurst is a good result, but we wanted to have at minimum a podium and maybe even a win, and why not a win,” said Prémat to TouringCarTimes.

“But compared to the Triple Eight car and the FPR car in terms of speed we were a bit slower than them. Not a lot, but about two or three tenths per lap, and also in consumption they were saving a bit more than us so our pit-stops were a bit longer. But Scotty did a good job, I did a good job and we’re pretty happy to bring back the car in the top five.”
