Former GT champion Jonny Cocker hints at WSR deal
Former British GT champion Johnny Cocker has hinted that he could be joining West Surrey Racing for the 2016 BTCC.
The 29-year-old posted a picture of the team’s BMW 125i M-Sport on Twitter with the comment “So, today was interesting,” on a day when reigning Porsche Carrera Cup champion Dan Cammish also revealed that he had tested for Dick Bennetts’ squad.
Experienced GT driver Cocker most recently won the 2012 European Le Mans Championship title with JMW Motorsport, also taking the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia honours in 2005 and British GT championship in 2004.
For his part, Cammish revealed his test would not lead to a race seat, as he was filling in for the unwell Sam Tordoff.
He tweeted: “Enjoyed a few laps in the @Official_WSR BMW. Unfortunately I haven’t been signed for 2016. Maybe 17. Get well soon @samtordoff.”
Although no WSR drivers have been confirmed yet, team boss Bennetts recently told TouringCarTimes that one driver had signed a deal for 2016 and one had verbally agreed to sign.
