Target Competition to field three cars in International and German TCR

Target Competition have confirmed they plan to enter three cars in both the TCR International Series as well as the new TCR Germany series this year, following their success in the 2015 International Series season, winning both the drivers’ and teams’ titles.

Despite the Italian team’s success in the maiden TCR championship with SEAT, they are now set for a switch to Opel machinery, as suggested by Josh Files’ announcement last week.

Although evasive on the issue of which cars they’ll run, Target’s Andreas Gummerer explained some of the plans for the team’s 2016 assault: “We will announce everything in due time,” said Gummerer to TouringCarTimes. “We can say at this stage that we will have three cars in the International series as well as three in the ADAC TCR Germany.”

As for the drivers, Gummerer explained the team’s policy: “We want to have good drivers in our cars, it’s not just a matter of budget. We have had a lot of requests and, although we are not at the stage where we can announce things, I can say we will have three very good drivers in all series. As for the International championship, all three have previous experience in TCR machinery, and we are very confident.”

As for the ADAC TCR Germany, Gummerer added: “Josh has spoken out, but we have the situation still on hold as we want to pick the best. We want good drivers to take the cars where they belong.”

Gummerer did not rule out outings in the Campionato Italiano Turismo: “I would not rule that possibility out, it is an interesting championship and if conditions are right we will do it.”

Target Competition will therefore have six cars in their garage. It’s also expected though not officially confirmed that Pepe Oriola will make the switch to the championship-winning team, which should use Opel cars.
