Jake Hill signs for Tony Gilham Racing for 2016 BTCC

Jake Hill will compete in his first full British Touring Car Championship season in 2016 after inking a deal with Tony Gilham Racing.

The 22-year-old will drive a second Toyota Avensis alongside former Mini Challenge champion Chris Smiley, after the team were successful in gaining a second TOCA BTCC Licence (TBL) from series bosses.

The BRDC Rising Star has made a number of fleeting appearances in the championship in recent years. His debut came in 2013 driving a Motorbase Performance Ford Focus at Croft, taking a win in the Jack Sears Trophy in his maiden race.

Hill then returned at the end of the same season, driving an Audi A4 for Rob Austin Racing at Brands Hatch, and made his most recent outing at the same circuit at the end of the 2015 season in an AmD Tuning Audi S3.

“Having known the (Team HARD) crew for a while now, we’ve been working together over the winter period to secure a package for the 2016 British Touring Car Championship, and with the help of Mike Joseph from RCIB Insurance, we’ve been able to put together a package which hopefully we can hit the ground running with,” said Hill.

“Hopefully we can score as many points as possible, get a good solid year under our belt with the Toyota Avensis and carry (the momentum) into next year, and build the RCIB Insurance racing team up and carry it into 2017 and beyond.”
