V8 Supercars star Scott McLaughlin to race for Volvo at Skövde season opener

V8 Supercars driver Scott McLaughlin will make his Scandinavian Touring Car Championship debut this weekend at the opening round at the Skövde Airport Race, substituting for Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte behind the wheel of the Polestar Cyan Racing Volvo S60 alongside Richard Göransson and former V8 Supercars Championship team-mate Robert Dahlgren.

McLaughlin won the last two rounds of the V8 Supercars Championship at Phillip Island in a Garry Rogers Motorsport-run Volvo S60, and will be making his Scandinavian racing debut with the team, which is co-run with WestCoast Racing this season.

“I am just looking forward to the challenge and will try to do a good job for the prince of Sweden who I am subbing in for,” said McLaughlin. “I am really excited to join my old team-mate Robert Dahlgren in the STCC with Polestar Cyan Racing. Hopefully we will come away with a podium, that would be great.”

Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte will miss the curtain raiser due to other commitments, as he’s due to become a father, as well as commitments with his father, King Carl XVI Gustaf’s, 70th birthday celebrations.

“Warm congratulations from all of us at Polestar Cyan Racing to Prince Carl Philip and while we are sorry to miss him for the first race, Scott is a young and promising racing talent who has done a great job in Australia,” said head of Polestar motorsport Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin. “We are delighted to have him with us for the first race and he will certainly face a tough challenge with so limited time in the STCC car, but we are confident in his abilities to adapt.”
