Race against time for Polestar Cyan to repair Richard Göransson’s car for Race 2
The Polestar Cyan Racing team have under two hours to repair four-time STCC champion Richard Göransson’s car for the final race of the day at Skövde, after the car caught fire due to damage in the first race, with the exhaust setting fire to the rear bodywork.
Göransson had qualified in second position and had held the spot into the first corner, but contact in the first Turn 1 set events in motion, with his Volvo S60 erupting into flames on lap four.
“Mattias Andersson touched me in the rear at the start, and then the rear fender caught fire,” explained Göransson to TouringCarTimes.
The team are hard at work on the car ahead of the second race, where Göransson is set to be the best-placed Volvo, albeit in a lowly seventh.
“I don’t know (if they can fix it), but I know the mechanics won’t give up,” he said. “They’ll work till the bitter end so I hope it will be OK. It’ll be a hectic race, but we know the pace is there.”
