Björn Wirdheim takes qualifying clean sweep at Solvalla

Flash Engineering driver Björn Wirdheim was fastest in Q1 and Q2 of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship qualifying sessions at Solvalla, claiming 25 points to the championship and pole position for the first race.

The former Jaguar F1 test driver beat SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing driver Daniel Haglöf by a mere 0.050 seconds in Q1 and extended the gap slightly in Q2 to 0.063 seconds.

Haglöf’s team-mate and STCC newcomer Philip Morin impressed by being third fastest in Q1 and fourth in Q2.

The title fight between Polestar Cyan Racing team-mates Richard Göransson and Robert Dahlgren took a turn in favour of championship leader Göransson who beat his Volvo colleague in both sessions.

Göransson was fourth fastest in Q1 and third fastest in Q2, while Dahlgren, who was fastest in testing only managed fifth in Q1 and Q2. The result of Q1 awards points to the championship, meaning that Göransson extends his lead slightly from 11 to 13 points over Dahlgren.

Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson was seventh fastest in Q1 and sixth fastest in Q2, swapping positions with Saab driver Reuben Kressner.

Rasmus Mårthen, who missed both test sessions due to so far unknown reasons within the team, made it to qualifying but only managed ninth in Q1.

Linus Ohlsson, who was fastest in the first test, suffered from a technical problem and failed to set a competitive lap time, but will start from the reversed grid pole position for race two after being tenth and last.

The first race of tomorrow starts at 12:30 CET.
