STCC promises ”at least” the same grid size in 2017

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisation has promised at least the same grid size in 2017 as this season when the championship switches regulations from TTA to TCR.

”We are not promising that everything will be perfect, but we will at least have as many (cars) as this year. From the contacts I have had so far I dare to make that promise,” said Jonas Lundin, MD of STCC AB, to automotorsport.se.

The STCC grids have decreased for the past couple of years with 2016 being the worst season in the history of the championship with eleven full-time entries and some races only having ten cars on the grid.

The organisers hopes the switch to TCR will turn things around, enabling teams and drivers to use their cars in other championships.

”You can take your car and drive races in Europe. That way our drivers will develop. We have been in some kind of recession since the racing war in 2012 (TTA vs. STCC). It was absolutely necessary to change now for 2017,” said Lundin.

STCC had a press conference earlier this week but with no further entries confirmed than the already announced three cars from SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing.
