Daniel Haglöf loses race one podium after penalty

Daniel Haglöf of PWR Racing has been stripped of his first race podium after receiving a one-second time penalty for contact with Kristoffersson Motorsport’s Fredrik Blomstedt on the last lap.

Haglöf got alongside Blomstedt on the exit of turn one after the latter ran wide under braking on the final tour, before turning in on the VW Golf GTI heading into the fast Esses before turn six.

The PWR man then attempted to move down the inside into the left-hander after the hairpin at the back of the circuit, where contact to the rear of Blomstedt’s car was made.

After a KMS protest, race stewards decided to impose a one-second penalty to Haglöf, judging his move too aggressive, which switched the positions.

Post-race, Haglöf had no complaints with the decision of the race officials.

“I’m not making any protest about it, it was too rough a move,” Haglöf said. “Touring Cars should be a little bit rough but I was over the limit on the overtake so I will take it.”

For his part, Blomstedt was happy with a first STCC podium on debut.

He said: “[Haglöf] said he made a misjudgement on for the left-hander and hit me in the rear. I nearly went off but just managed to get the car get.”

“Touring Cars is not like Karting, where you can just hit someone, this is proper racing. We want to have a good fight, but a clean fight. But I’m really happy with a podium in my first start,” Blomstedt said.
