Harder tyre compound to be introduced at Falkenberg

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisation has announced the switch to a harder tyre compound, starting this weekend at Falkenberg.

”The goal with the change is to increase safety, life span and to make the races more exciting with close racing further into the races,” said Jonas Lundin, MD of STCC AB.

All cars in the STCC run on Michelin tyres, now switching from the softer S8L tyre to the harder S9L tyre.

”There are several reasons for the change. The harder variant of the tyre is the one used in the TCR International Series and is the tyre used when running the Balance of Performance evaluation. The change removes a factor of uncertainty on how the BOP affects us and our cars on our tracks. It increases the possibility for all teams to get relevant data from their respective manufacturers,” said Lundin.

The STCC organisation has also voiced concerns over the risk of punctures at Falkenberg this weekend with the softer tyre, a track especially demanding for the front-left tyre.
