Fredrik Ekblom: ”We could lead the championship with some luck”

Former F1 circuit Anderstorp hosts the penultimate round of the 2017 STCC this weekend, and Volkswagen driver Fredrik Ekblom is the only real title challenger to championship leader and SEAT driver Robert Dahlgren.

”I’m heading to Anderstorp with an open mind and a heavy right foot. With some luck, we could lead the championship after the weekend,” said Ekblom.

Ekblom joined Kristoffersson Motorsport this year as a temporary replacement for Johan Kristoffersson but has ended up doing the full season and is 40 points behind former Volvo team-mate Dahlgren.

“I am a bit surprised actually. Things have gone really well. The car is balanced and easy to drive,” said Ekblom.

While Ekblom is aiming to gain on Dahlgren, he is cautious ahead of the races at Anderstorp.

“Anderstorp and Mantorp, with their long straights and sweeping corners, should not suit us. But if you find the sweet spot with the set-up, it is possible to score quite some points anyway,” said Ekblom.

Team-mate Johan Kristoffersson, who is placed third overall, will miss Anderstorp and the season finale at Mantorp Park due to his clashing World Rallycross Championship commitments.
