Reuben Kressner stripped of ninth; Albin Wärnelöv to miss second race

Brovallen Design’s Reuben Kressner has been stripped of his ninth place finish from the opening STCC race at Anderstorp after receiving a 30-second penalty.

Kressner had managed to work his through the pack after qualifying 13th on Saturday with his Audi RS 3 LMS, but made contact with the Experion car of Albin Wärnelöv on the entry to the first corner, earning himself a penalty which dropped him to 17th.

Wärnelöv, who was forced through the gravel at the first turn, eventually finished 15th on the road, which became 14th after Kressner’s demotion.

“I left him a lot of space coming into Turn One,” Wärnelöv told TouringCarTimes. “But obviously he [Kressner] is not really someone I feel you can race side-by-side because he just ran me off the road.”

“It’s also really annoying because we have had good speed in the car, during the tests and I made a good start,” Wärnelöv added.

“So it’s just a shame that we couldn’t score any points.”

To add to Wärnelöv’s misery, the Experion Team identified a terminal gearbox issue with the Volkswagen Golf GTI, forcing it out of the second race and making participation in the third and final encounter a tall-order.

Wärnelöv said: “I noticed something not feeling quite right on the warm-up lap but I thought it was maybe just the splitter coming lose. It made a churning sound and eventually we identified the problem.

“It means we are definitely out of Race Two and probably Race Three. We had actually renovated this one before the weekend, so it’s doubly frustrating that it went again,” he added.

“We will see if we can get it out at the end of the day, but it looks like we will have to wait until Mantorp.”
