Volkswagen: ”If someone can lose a lead, it’s Robert Dahlgren”
The final race of the 2017 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season takes place at Mantorp Park this weekend, with the title looking more or less set for SEAT driver Robert Dahlgren. But Volkswagen team boss Tommy Kristoffersson has got other ideas.
”The points gap might be a bit too big, but if someone can lose a lead, it’s Robert Dahlgren. He is not known to keep things together during the season finale,” said Kristoffersson, referring to the 2010 STCC season ender when Dahlgren lost the title to Göransson, despite a big lead.
Kristoffersson also comments on the controversial incident in the previous race at Anderstorp, when title rival and Volkswagen driver Fredrik Ekblom was pushed off track by Dahlgren’s team-mate and team boss Daniel Haglöf.
”In a worst case scenario, he (Dahlgren) has got a team boss that is willing to do the job if needed,” said Kristoffersson.
Ekblom is a full 76 points behind Dahlgren ahead of Mantorp Park, meaning that the PWR Racing driver only needs to score three points in order to take the title.
”I feel both safe and strong for the final. The gold will be secured, there is nothing else,” said Dahlgren.
With the seemingly impossible task of beating Dahlgren, Ekblom is nonetheless pleased with the season and has set his sights on the manufacturers’ title instead.
”It has been a unique season. I was only supposed to drive three races and ended up driving full season. The important thing now is to secure the manufacturers’ title,” said Ekblom.
Kristoffersson Motorsport heads PWR Racing by 41 points heading to Mantorp.
