Andreas Andersson targeting STCC return for 2018

Former LMS Racing driver Andreas Andersson is targeting a return to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship for 2018.

Andersson, who raced a SEAT León in the opening race of the season at Knutstorp was present at the season finale weekend at Mantorp and confirmed he was in talks with a number of teams.

A major crash in the second race at Knutstorp with Brovallen’s Reuben Kressner meant that Andersson missed the second round at Alastaro after suffering two broken ribs. His car also underwent a significant rebuild, taking nearly three months for it to be returned to Andersson.

Now Andersson is aiming to return to the series full-time in 2018, but admits any comeback to the STCC would not be with LMS Racing.

“We are targeting a full season next year. It’s been a frustrating year with the accident and the damage to myself and the car,” Andersson told TouringCarTimes.

“I own the SEAT so I have half the work done already. I just need to find a team that will field another SEAT, because I don’t think I will stay with LMS.

“The problem is that there is only one team currently that runs SEATs (PWR Racing). So we need to see what the other teams are doing for 2018.”

Andersson said he would use the long off-season to attempt to finalise his 2018 plans, which may also include the Dubai 24 Hour race. But his main focus is to return to the STCC, starting first with a test in October.

“I have been doing a little bit of endurance racing, in a small series to keep me in the process of driving,” Andersson said.

“I’m hopeful of being able to test the car at Knutstorp in October, but I also need to try and get some sponsors for a full campaign next year.”
